How to Make Oatmeal Baths and Bath Bombs

An oatmeal bath is a great natural skin protector and remedy for sunburn, diaper rash, eczema, chicken pox, insect bites, shingles and other dry, itchy skin conditions. In fact, an oatmeal bath is a common recommendation by doctors to relieve skin irritations in both adults and
children
. You can buy one of the commercially available oatmeal baths or bath bombs, but you can also make your own very inexpensively.

Things You'll Need:

Knee-high stockings

1/2 cup plain, unflavored oatmeal

Make an Oatmeal Bath

1

*Pour the oatmeal into your blender (or coffee grinder). Powder the oats at the blender's highest setting to a fine consistency.

2

Test the texture of the blended oatmeal by stirring a spoon of the powder into a glass of water. If the powder dissolves easily and turns the water milky, then you have blended it to the right consistency. It is now ready for use.

3

Run a warm bath. Sprinkle the powdered oatmeal into the running bath water. Sprinkling it right under the faucet will help dissolve it faster.

4

Run your hand through the water to disburse the oatmeal evenly. Crumble any lumps that may form.

5

Soak in the oatmeal bath tub for 20-25 minutes. Pat rather than rub yourself dry with a towel. Take an oatmeal bath up to three times a day.

Make Oatmeal Bath Bombs

1

Crumble any lumps there may be in the oatmeal. Spoon the oatmeal into the stocking.

2

Tie a knot to enclose the oatmeal. Snip off the excess nylon fabric (optional).

3

Fill your child's bathtub with warm water. Place the oatmeal bag into the water. Let your child soak in the bath for at least 20 minutes.

4

Pat rather than rub your child dry with a towel. Discard the bath bomb immediately after use.

Tips & Warnings

Be very careful as you step into and out of the bath tub. Some of the powdered oatmeal will settle at the bottom of the bath, making it pretty slick.

Use 1/3 cup of oatmeal for a baby bath.
